This renovation and addition to an existing building is in keeping with the best structures in the neighborhood – a unique stretch of the Boston Post Road that retains small-town New England character. The use of materials and features common to the local Connecticut River vernacular enhances the visual interest of the entire site. Placement of the entrance on the side gives the building a welcoming appearance while allowing all but the handicapped parking to be conveniently located in the rear of the site. Of particular merit is the incorporation of the handicapped access ramp into the overall design of the building rather than as a required intrusion in front of the building.

This rehabilitation and expansion exemplifies use of durable, modern materials on an industrial project staying within the tradition of the Connecticut River Valley agricultural vernacular. The form of the building breaks up its massing to keep it within the scale of our community. Particular note should be made to the preservation of mature trees in a pastoral landscape.
