Project Name: The Wicker Shop
Project Type: Commercial Renovation
Location: 1234 Boston Post Road
Owner: Patricia Walden
Designer: Point One Architects, Old Lyme
This renovation and addition to an existing building is in keeping with the best structures in the neighborhood – a unique stretch of the Boston Post Road that retains small-town New England character. The use of materials and features common to the local Connecticut River vernacular enhances the visual interest of the entire site. Of particular merit is the incorporation of the handicapped access ramp into the overall design of the building rather than as a required protrusion. Placement of the entrance on the side is convenient to parking yet the porch steps give a welcome appearance from the street.
Project Name: Geomatrix
Project Type: Industrial New Consttruction
Location: 114 Mill Rock Road East
Owner: David & Elizabeth Potts
This rehabilitation and expansion exemplifies use of durable, modern materials on an industrial project staying within the tradition of the Connecticut River Valley agricultural vernacular. The form of the building breaks up its massing to keep it within the scale of our community. Particular note should be made to the preservation of mature trees in a pastoral landscape.

The Board chose this project for it’s significant presence to the key intersection of Main Street and the Boston Post Road. The Saybrook Country Barn has created an impressive and welcoming entryway into Old Saybrook. The use of high quality design, workmanship, materials, signage and a range of colors reduces mass resulting in a wonderful series of interconnected appropriately scaled buildings that are respectful of Town guidelines. The building’s style presents a timeless sense of place and identity that captures the spirit of Old Saybrook.. The windows provide a flavor of what is inside in a subtle and understated way. Detailed attention to parking and landscaping engages and invites viewers from the street into the spaces.
