Bicycle Rodeo

Many organizations provide bicycle rodeos for their youth. The Old Saybrook Department of Police Services has worked to make our rodeo a town wide event. Members of the Old Saybrook Fire Department along with their junior firefighters (high school student members) assist in setting up the course. Old Saybrook Kiwanis members register the children as they arrive. Trained members of the club adjust their helmets as well. A local bicycle shop donates an employee to do safety inspections and minor repairs prior to them entering the course.

The course is instructed by Old Saybrook Police officers. When the youth have completed the course, members of the Saybrook Fire Department prepare free hot dogs and the Old Saybrook Ambulance association provides the thirsty with free soda. The youth are exposed to many positive influences and they learn valuable riding skills that will keep them safe.
