This division supplements the patrol division. It is staffed by one DetectiveSergeant and one Detective. They have received advanced training in the areas of crime scene processing, narcotics investigations, homicide investigations, missing persons, sexual assault, child abuse and other related criminal offenses. The division assists patrol officers in their investigations nd will conduct investigations of a complicated matter, or, those cases that would be lengthy and time consuming. Types of cases such as these that have been investigated in the recent past include robberies, murder’s, sexual assaults, assaults and credit card fraud.

Many times investigations are multi jurisdictional and involve other local, state or federal agencies. The criminal investigation division is charged with keeping a liaison with those agencies and managing this type of investigation. The officers assigned to the detective division also will assist the accident reconstructionist in his investigations and will assist other specialized units. Keeping files on the fingerprints and mugshots of all arrested persons are also a responsibility of the detectives as is conducting background investigations on prospective employees and those seeking weapons permits.

From time to time it is necessary to conduct extradition on persons who are wanted and are arrested out of state. Also, there are times that our department will arrest persons that are wanted by another state. The detectives make arrangements for bringing our wanted persons back into the state and assist out of state agencies with taking their prisoners back to their own jurisdictions.fingerprinting.jpg

All evidence that is collected in association with any crime must have strict controls and be kept in a manner consistent with law and court rulings. The division maintains logs of all items of evidence seized and sees to it that, when necessary, it is presented in court in accordance with accepted standards.

The detective division also works closely with the Community Policing office in developing and presenting topics to the public that would prevent them from becoming victims of crime.
