Certified Police Officer / School Resource Officer

The Old Saybrook Department of Police Services is accepting applications for the position of part time/per diem police officer to serve as a school resource officer.~ Applicants must be CT POST Certified or able to obtain POST Certification by the start of the 2017/18 school year.~ Applicants must be able to pass a written and oral examination as well as psychological, polygraph, and medical assessments.~~~ The Department may require a physical assessment.~ Previous experience with school based policing and/or DARE Instruction is preferred.~~~ Successful candidate will work a 35 Hour workweek during the academic year and may be eligible for additional assignments.~ Interested persons must submit an Applicant packet to the Office of the Chief of Police by June 30, 2017 at 4 PM.~ Applicant Packets are available at the Police Department~or download it here.

Police Department Records Specialist

General Duties:
The Records Specialist is a member of the Department’s Support Division and will primarily be responsible for working and interacting with external and internal stakeholders (including the public, law enforcement professionals and members of the criminal justice system), answering the telephone, filing, alphabetizing, data entry, photocopying, organizing, collating data/paperwork, analyzing data, compiling reports, and the creation of written correspondence.   The Records Specialist will also assist in general office duties such as working with extremely sensitive data and information, disseminating messages and correspondence, managing correspondence, collecting and analyzing data, the completion of forms, maintaining the Department’s Records in accordance with Law, and serving as an advisor to the Chief of Police on matters pertaining to records retention and freedom of information practices, regulations, and laws.   The Records Specialist will also provide support to all Department Division Heads as directed by the Chief of Police.  

Additional Duties:
Must be available for emergency assignments.
Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or his designee.  

Work Schedule / Compensation / Benefits:
Full Time (35 Hours) – Non Union – At Will Position
(Schedule is negotiable but must meet the Department’s business needs Monday - Friday)
$21.07/Hour - $38,347/Annually

The Records Specialist will work under the direct supervision of the Chief of Police, the Executive Assistant to the Chief of Police, and other Department Supervisors as assigned.  

The Records Specialist must be pleasant, possess superior communication skills, be trustworthy, reliable, possess the ability to work independently, manage data, gain and possess a comprehensive understanding of State of Connecticut Records Retention Laws and Regulations and possess the ability to multitask while working in stressful environments.   The Records Specialist should have a background in office management and prior customer service experience. The Records Specialist should possess formal education relating to the position, possess excellent phone and keyboarding skills, as well as be competent and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, PowerPoint as well as have competency with basic mathematics and business correspondence.   The Records Specialist must also be able to learn and become proficient in Department Records Management Software.

Qualified candidates will participate in a detailed hiring process to include a written, practical, and situational examinations, a comprehensive background investigation, and a final interview with the Chief of Police.
