General Tax Bill Information

Tax bills are mailed out ONLY ONCE A YEAR in the middle of June. It is the responsibility of the taxpayer to remember to pay the second installment in January. All bills can be found on the town website at www.oldsaybrookct.gov, look for the “Pay Tax Bills” button on the home page. Search by last name, with a space and then the initial of your first name.

Real Estate and Personal Property Bills:

All real or personal property tax bills over $100.00 are payable in 2 installments. The first installment is due July 1 and the last day to pay without penalty is August 1. Second installments are due January 1, and the last day to pay is February 1.

There are three pieces to the Bill for Real Estate and Personal Property:

Part A is for the July Installment, Part B for the January Installment and Part C is the taxpayer’s copy.

Delinquent interest on taxes due accrues as of the due date with interest charged monthly at an interest rate of 1.5% of the unpaid taxes with a $2.00 minimum charge.

If you escrow money each month with your lender, we send the bill to the lender. If you escrow and receive a bill, please forward the bill to your bank immediately. If you no longer escrow your taxes and you did not receive a bill, please contact immediately at 860-395-3138.

Failure to receive a tax bill does not invalidate the tax. Connecticut General State Section 12-130 states that the failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve the taxpayer of the requirement to pay the bill. Consequently, if you do not receive a tax bill(s); the tax bill is due with any interest, fees and charges that might have accrued. If you did not receive a tax bill, call the Tax Collector’s Office 860-395-3138.

Motor Vehicle Tax Bills:

Motor Vehicle taxes are due and payable in full July 1 and the last day to pay is August 1. Bills are mailed in the middle of June.

Motor Vehicle Supplement taxes (registrations after October 1st of any given year) are due in full January 1. Bills are mailed in December.
